It has been hectic as ever here over the last few weeks and only now are we getting around to updating you on how things have been progressing at Just Bread.
Firstly, what a fantastic day we had at the Celebrating Sanctuary event down on London’s Southbank the other week. Thanks to everyone who came along to show support. Celebrating Sanctuary is a great event that offers us the opportunity to recognise the contribution that refugees make to this country and reminds us how important it is to continue offering protection to those people who need it most.
As part of the event, we took our oven outdoors for the first time ever. Our recently graduated trainees were there to give some bread making demonstrations to the public and to talk about the project. The delicious smell of baked bread wafted around the area as we produced Iranian inspired sourdough cheese sticks and herb Focaccia and handed it out for people to try. It went down incredibly well and we struggled to produce it quick enough to deal with the demand.
The bread on display looked impressive and tasted great. We even had an area where kids could have a go at kneading and shaping the dough. Importantly, Just Bread offered us a wonderful opportunity to talk to people who wouldn’t necessarily have otherwise had the chance to meet our trainees and hear about the work we do.
So now we have gone into planning mode. We are looking to start our next training course in September so there’s a lot to do in preparation for that. We are very excited to be running course number 2. We learnt a lot from the first courses so looking forward to putting that learning in to practice. Watch this space.
